A Heck of a Day

Yesterday was just not Katie's day. She has become a little daredevil and loves to climb on everything she can.

Incident #1: She pushed the footstool to the front of the couch, climbed up on it and then to the couch. As I was doing dishes, she crawled over the arm of the couch and fell down into the corner between the two couches. She was not hurt, just a little scared.

Incident #2: I was at the back of the house when all of a sudden I hear her scream and come running into the family room to see her on the floor by the computer desk. I don't know how she did it, but this is what she ended up with on her eye:

Incident #3: Katie woke up from her nap and I went in to get her. She stood up in her crib and as I went over to open the window blinds, she flipped over the railing of her crib (still in the "up" position) and landed flat on her back. Needless to say it really scared her, but thankfully she was alright and hadn't hurt herself. When Mike got home from work that night, he put the mattress down to the lowest position to prevent her from falling out of the crib again!

Katie knows that something is going on with her bed and she was not happy about it.

I don't remember Colin being as brave as Katie at this age. I am sure this is just the beginning of scrapes and bruises.

Another Tooth Fairy Visit?

Colin lost his second tooth this morning. It has been loose for what seems likes weeks and weeks. He was just playing with it and popped it forward out of his gum and then I just finished the job with my fingers...that's how loose it was! Mike is probably going to hate that I am posting pictures of it because even the mere mention of losing a tooth makes him weak in the knees and green in the face! But I have to post them for the grandparents!

Colin's Morning Discussion

Don't ask me where he comes up with them. We have many discussions on many random topics just like this one. I just had to document this one down, though:

Colin: "Mom, what's a casino?"

Krista: (I really had to stop and think about the best way to answer this in a way that Colin would understand it the best and this is the best I could come up with in the few seconds I had to think about it. Otherwise, he will keep asking me about it until I give him an answer)

"It's a place where people go to lose all their money"

Colin: "What about a lucky casino?"

Krista: "A lucky casino?"

Colin: "Yeah, it doesn't make you lose money."

I didn't have a response after that and he dropped the topic entirely.

Now where Colin learned about a casino or where he heard it from, I have no idea!

I LOVE CHOCOLATE!

Katie has discovered chocolate chips cookies. The pictures say it all.

Little DAREdevil

I took Colin outside a few days ago to ride his scooter that he got for his birthday. I hadn't snapped any pictures of Colin on his scooter since he got it. Here are a few shots of him practicing to ride his scooter.

Falling off is to be expected...
...but he got right back up again and peddled away...
Then the phone rang in the house and when I came back out this is what I found Colin doing instead of riding his scooter:
He likes to take Mike's work stool and coast down the driveway with it. I don't blame him...it does look much more fun than riding the scooter! It scares me half to death when he does it though. He does know not to go into the street and likes to use the toes of his shoes as brakes! That makes mommy not so happy!

Be Mine

Our little moms/preschool group is having a Valentine's party tomorrow and the kids can exchange valentines if they wish. So Colin and I made valentine candy pouches thanks to an idea from Martha Stewart "Kids Magazine." They are soooo simple to make and I think they are about the cutest things I have ever seen.

Colin did about 90% of the making himself...I think the only thing I did was glue the things together. We filled them with Hershey Chocolate Hearts and Hershey Valentines Kissables. The embellishments were on clearance since it is so close to Valentines. I had the cupcake liners in the pantry. They cost close to nothing to make and they turned out so much cuter than "store-bought" valentines. These were definitely a hit with Colin who sat there with me for about an hour making them.

So easy and superrrrrr cute!

Guess Who?

The Amgen Tour of California is coming to town...did you hear? Thursday, February 19th is the day! Here are a couple of links to all the info. Mike gets a front row seat because he works at the Convention Center! And since he rides his bike to work, he won't have to worry about parking or traffic. No fair! I hope I can make it to "Get a Glance at Lance!"

Katie is a Big Girl Now

For several weeks now Katie has been really fussy when eating her food while sitting in her high chair. First we discovered that she now wants to feed herself. She does pretty good once the food is on her spoon or fork. But that really didn't solve the problem. She liked to get out of her high chair and sit on Mike's lap or mine and she would be better about finishing her food.

Then, one day, she saw Colin's booster seat in the house. He hasn't used it for years now, but it happened to be in his closet, I think. She pointed to it and squealed. So, I got it out and set it on the chair in the kitchen. She sat in it and was so happy! The only problem is that there is no seat belt and it doesn't attach to the chair.

On Saturday we went out and bought her a booster seat just like the one that Grandma Arizona has at her house. Katie can't get enough of it! She loves sitting in her own chair with us at the table. It even has a tray to it so she can eat her little snacks off of it. She isn't a fussy eater so much anymore and I think it makes her feel like a big girl now and more a part of the family at meal time.

The Best Toy EVER!

Ah...the simplicities of life. Give a kid a cardboard box and he can do anything with it. Out of a cardboard box, Colin can:

1. Use it as a tunnel for his cars.

2. Make it into a jump for his cars.

3. Use it to keep his cars "warm" at night.

4. Hide Katie's dolls in it.

But best of all...give it to his dad, let him cut out a couple of eye holes in it, and you have "Robot Colin!"
